  1. Happy New year to all you Oxford and Bucks paramotorists (a bit late I know). Just to let you know that Eds back and will be flying again this year. As some of you know, I live in Thame and I am sorting out places to fly from at the moment. If you are local and are looking for somewhere please let me know (put your town on any replies). More importantly if you have a field that can be used by fellow members pm me and we can have a chat. I hope to meet as many fellow paramotorists as I can this year. I might even pop down to Membury if they are lucky! Eddie
  2. Okay Tom, I will see you there hopefully. It will be good to see you again. I will be going up in the van as bhollerran has no room for me in the caravan with him and his wife!
  3. Thanks Alan, although I am still not sure what all the fuss is about, it looks like half of it is missing and I am not sure what the unique selling point will be! Eddie
  4. Does the fact that no one has replied mean that I am the only person going from the South of the country or they just don't want to go with me?
  5. I would like to see a picture but I still actually have a life of my own so I am not on facebook or twitter yet! Never mind, I will have to wait
  6. Did you say NORTH of Birmingham? I didn't know there was such a place. This is going to be more dangerous than I thought!
  7. I am in the process of arranging an expedition to the dark interior of the UK to attend the fly-in at Winsford. This will be a dangerous trip 'up north' and not for the 'faint hearted'. Is anybody else in the Oxford, Bucks area planning to undertake this dangerous journey as well? I have a van with space for a brave compatriot and his tent and Paramotor if anybody wants to join me on the trip. Good luck to all of us brave southern softies prepared to make the trip. Eddie
  8. Good tip Pete, do you remember when I did that to my PAP1250 and stood in the field at Common Leys farm trying desperately to reach it but couldn't and you had to start it for me! My tip is use a length of tube to put the handle where you can reach it orjust take Pete with you to start it for you Eddie
  9. The Halfords one goes down to 53mm but you can get them down to 40mm without too much trouble. Not sure what the diameter is on a TOP80 piston.
  10. I may be missing something on this thread but I would use a piston ring compressor. You can get them from Halfords http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... &langId=-1 Just tighten up around the piston holding the rings in and tap the piston down through the tool, Eddie
  11. I would love to come and join you Simon but is "up north" Doesn't that mean it will be all dark and gloomy and I will have to eat black puddings and drink Bovril (not to mention buying a whippet and flat cap so I don't stand out)? regards Southern softy Eddie
  12. Hi Dan I know there are a lot of people out there that listen to music whilst flying but it scares me not to be able to listen out for any danger! I know the paramotor would probably drown out anything flying nearby but I like to think I may just hear it. The same thing when I am on the motorbike since I nearly got 'taken out' by a police car because I couldn't hear the siren! (not many police cars in the air though). Happy new year Eddie
  13. Why didn't you tell him he had forgotten to hook up his wing?
  14. Alan That would make some sense if the height restriction above large gatherings was'nt 1000 metres!! Eddie
  15. Thanks guys. Can't see a big problem as I am informed that there is only about 200 to 300 people there at most. I use a Canon EOS with a 300mm lens so the only problem would be if I had to fly over at 3000 metres (whatever that is ). I just get annoyed at the fact that the aviation world uses feet but, somehow, in this country we mix in metres for no reason! quote "less than 1500 feet above the highest fixed object within 600m of the aircraft, whichever is higher" They can't even keep to the same measurement in one sentence!!!!!!!!! regards grumpy old git Eddie
  16. Thanks Simon Wish they would make up their mind wether to use metres or feet though. Eddie
  17. Thanks for the reply Simon, just a couple of questions: Is that meant to read 1000 metres and not 1000 feet? (I ask because I thought all aviation was done in feet). What are the rule if less than a 1000 people does it just revert to the 500ft rule. Eddie
  18. I can't believe that I had no replies to my last post. Why is it that if somebody flies at 499ft or gets within a couple of miles of some bloke walking his dog in the middle of nowhere there are people wanting to have them hanged, yet if you ask for confirmation of the rules for a specific purpose there is tumbleweed rolling past the screen?. To quote Deliah Smith "let's be having you" Eddie
  19. 14th July to the 15th August for the major restriction it states on the top of the page. I will probably be watching the olympics then anyway
  20. What is going on here? It was only one donkey and now you won't let me forget it On a more serious note the football club have asked if I can take some pictures when the team and/or the boys football clubs are playing on the site. Can someone clarify the rules about flying over events where there are a lot of people please. regards Eddie
  21. Quite pleased with some pictures I took so sent them to the local football club. http://www.thamefootball.co.uk
  22. Hi Paul I use a Bak-Rak to save the smell of petrol in the car and not having to take it apart (it is a bit bent and not so easy to assemble and dismantle as it used to be). I made a plywood base for it that fits perfectly into the rack with battens screwed on to hold the paramotor base stable. I can fit the rack very quickly and always jump on the back of the rack before pulling away as I am also not sure how it works either but it is very solid. Eddie
  23. Why is it that the speedo on my car is in mph, the Sat Nav in my car is in miles and mph, all the maps I have are in miles, every sign post in the country is in miles and yet people insist on using Kilometres and KPH?. I am not aware of any plans to change the system in this country yet so how about (like Jock)using a measurement that we can understand!. ps: I feel much better now .
  24. Seems like no one is owning up to it then! I had a great flight out of Shabbington tonight and I will be about on Saturday if anybody wants to join me. Let me know first though, especially if you are thinking of flying in as we have LFO's to beware of!. Or ring me. regards Eddie 07863156080
  25. Several paramotors were seen landing in Manor farm next to the Shabbington site last weekend and taking off again. Was this anybody on this site? Eddie
