  1. its a bit annoying when without warning the wind can change direction on you. quite a few fails but ill get there. its not a race hopefully back again this friday if the weather is kind to us.
  2. SECOND DAYS TRAINING 9.10.15 arrived at the airfield to find it was to damp to get the wings out. waited about for around 30-45 mins and then decided to just do it. did some ground handling which im getting the hang of now. Then at midday colin gave me a harness to try some forward launching. my first one was perfect but i feel im a bit rusty at it and may need more time to prefect it. the wind changing direction every 10 seconds didnt really help matters. i keep forgetting to let go of my A Risers which isnt a good habit to have. i also need to learn to relax a bit more. around 230pm i pulled a hamstring but nothing to serious a hot bath didnt really fix. feel a bit bruised but im ready for my 3rd day next week
  3. yep oxford airport located near kidlington oxfordshire. run way is 50 ft over head of the dual carriageway
  4. i dont mind, i cant swim anyway. might need arm bands when i go over the sea haha. i ended up risking the A34 going home. never hit any traffic. did it in 55 mins
  5. FIRST DAY TRAINING. (2.10.15) arrived just gone 10am because my sat nav got me lost. did some ground handling and at first i thought it would be easy but its NOT. its really tiring stuff. After about 12pm i managed to control it a bit more and steer it. 1pm the wind vanished and never really came back. i plan to go back for my 2nd day next friday. ( 9.10.15) Dont listen to what most of the youtube videos say. they make it sound like you can just get a wing and fly. the ground handling is tough going for a newbie and if you managed to get air born i dont think you would last long without the ground handling.
  6. What would be the best setup for someone just getting into paramotoring. I weight about 11-12 stone, what wing, motor would be the best to start with. not looking to go extreme right away and a nice slow wing would be good i think.
  7. Here is where im going to post my experience with PPG. booked up last week with simon and i hope to go down next friday ( 2nd oct 15 ) for my first lesson. will update as i go along. forgot to add that im terrified of going up high. this is more of a motivation thing to get my fear of heights gone ( I HOPE ) so spending £900 on training to fly a PPG is one way to motivate me. no one likes to lose £900 do they.. next on the list is fear of deep water
  8. haha i havent started training yet haha. well next friday if the weathers my friend.
  9. it says there is 3726 registered users but hardly any recent posts. how come its not very active? is it more active in winter? all those members and 1 or 2 posts a day?
  10. cant you just take off from anywhere theres flat land??
  11. anyone ever thought about running there motors on HHO?? i have HHO in my work van and ive seen cars and motorbikes run off it.
  12. wasnt he cheating though being in the mountains. shouldnt it count if you are at sea level and climbing? i could live 10k feet above sea level and clime 30k feet and claim a record haha
  13. doesnt bear grylls hold the world record for a height of 29,500ft
  14. from what ive read the only issue with engines was fuel in the carbs etc. so best to drain all that. i think the idea of buying gear from us and we give free lessons to me sounds like a bit of a con. maybe im wrong, but you get nothing free in this world thats for sure.
  15. as you enter the airfield where all the businesses are from a b4030 you come to the main gates. there is a bend to the right and on the left as you enter theres an un used runway all broken up. anyone with a trike could easily land there.
  16. what im saying is, there is a unused run way that every now and again people take radio controlled cars on and learn to drive on. its full of holes and no good for a plane. but would be ideal for landing and taking off with a paramotor. its a public place and no one can say if you can or cant use it. as long as you dont fly into enstone flying clubs air space im sure its fine.
  17. hi guys im new to all this. had a good chat last night with simon about training. Is there any software for mobiles that you can install that tells you via GPS if you are near or on air space thats not allowed?
  18. no need to after our phone chat there is how ever a unused run way as you enter which they do not own. i often see people learning to drive on it.
  19. i used to live next to enstone airfield. when i go and see my nan there is always planes and microlights going over head. its a nice area. one i have got my training started with simon this is an area i plan to use. there is also a runway at enstone thats unused as you enter the airfield on the left. full of pot holes though.
  20. I have been looking at getting into paragliding for a while, BUT the thought of only using a hill to get lift kind of bored me. so i decided to check out some paramotor youtube videos and i decided this was for me. Basic info about me is, i live on the warwickshire / Oxfordshire border by Chipping Norton. I am looking at prices so far for training that will let me fly alone without supervision. ? Are there any books you would recommend id read to learn about laws of the skies and techniques? I dont plan on buying any equipment just yet, i am just weighing up the cost to get qualified first then i will look at how much it will cost for the gear.
