  1. a late entry ... My nitro 200 from 2018 had zero problems until the crankshaft broke at 270+ hrs. I have only heard of one other such event. Most of my mates have engines other than Nitros and are always having one issue after another BUT as mentioned above they have more repair vids and such to work from when things do go wrong.
  2. Late update: 'Twas indeed broken output end of crankshaft. And it seems I have an older model of the Nitro 200. Ser# stamped on the case is 1022. When I received the new crankshaft (from Eric Dufour of Paratour) I found it was NOT identical to the original: different drive side to fit the 6 arm clutch vs. my original 5 arm clutch, and keyed shaft and magnetic flywheel vs. my unkeyed shft/magnetic flywheel. The flywheel was destroyer during removal and it appears it was epoxied onto the taper (see dark green resin glob in pic). Required a puller and heat from a torch to pop it off Anyway, lessons learned.
  3. ...This is what I think I am working with. I am surprised this would happen on a clutched system with "only" 270 hrs on it. I will post pics when I get in there...
  4. Thanks everyone for the info. So, can anyone tell me where to purchase a new crankshaft and gasket(s), etc? What other things should I do while I have it apart? Bearings, reed valve?
  5. Yes, it is clutched. So I don't think the impact wrench will work, but I'll give it a try. I'm wondering if I can split the case without having to pull the clutch/pulley... Thanks for the ideas.
  6. Has anyone heard of this? I believe I have a broken crankshaft on my Nitro 200. The motor runs but the pulley end does not spin, and I am trying to figure out how to remove the pulley before splitting the case. When I lock the starter wheel end of the crankshaft the pulley end just spins so I am unable to remove the bolt holding the drive pulley on. I have ~280 hrs on this engine Any idea how much a new crankshaft will cost?
  7. Any clues for me? I have a Black Hawk w/corsair 175 M25Y engine that has ~40 hrs on it. (It sat idle in a hanger for quite a few yrs before I bought it from a friend). It used to consistently reach max rpm of ~7800 on the ground & ~7400 airborne. It has recently started having problems getting above ~6200 before it starts sputtering, but it will get up to ~7400 after a few minutes airborne. Some background: ~6 engine hrs ago it became hard to start and would sputter & die if I even tried to throttle up from idle, so I put in a new plug NGK BR9ES, overhauled the carb WB (found some litter in the screen). I have always used the all black fuel pump diaphragm but this time I followed advice from Alex Varv's web-page and used the tan/clear diaphragm... And everything seemed fine for a few flights (~2 engine hrs) but the sputtering came back. Then I discovered that he spark plug cap/boot was bad so I replaced that, and now the last 2 flights I am having problems reaching 7800rpm after warmup before launch. I am thinking I should install the old style black fuel pump diaphragm first and go from there. Other notes: Under plug CHT has shown no more than ~380F max during any of this. I warm my engine up to ~200F before all run ups or launches. Thanks! Greg C. in Va.
