  1. Damn it, just dribbled all over my laptop. Thanks Morgy ?
  2. Of course the weather is amazing......I can't go! ??? Andy.
  3. I did an intensive course which was 6 days and resulted in my first solo flight at the end. It was before the APPI existed but with the same people. With hindsight, if i was doing it again I think I would accept it taking longer and go with training PMC style as I think it would have ended in a more rounded pilot and without the rush of trying to get me in the air within the week. (Two days of the 6 were unflyable and not even suitable for ground handling). Of course for every opinion the same as mine, you will get an equal number complete opposed to me and none of us are wrong, it's just personal choice. I'd say get yourself along to a flying field and meet some people, watch some training and it will all start to become clear which route for training will suit you best. And a tandem flight will give you a great idea on what it's actually like too, so well worth doing that. Andy.
  4. Just to get this right, you've purchased a brand new paramotor from Parajet with a Bailey engine? If so, your contract of sale is with Parajet. Ok they didn't build the engine but they did sell it to you. That's who you must chase to get service. You'll need to pressure them to get Bailey to sort the problem out, maybe they will also have better lines of communication to Bailey too. However I would feel sorry for Parajet on it, they have a brilliant reputation for after sales service in the UK, i'm sure they will do whatever they can, but they may just get stuck in the same position as you, not being able to get anything out of Bailey. It's utterly criminal, the Bailey motor is so so good, but i'll never touch one again. If I won the lottery I'd either buy the tooling from him and offer the engine for sale myself with MY ideas of what customer service is, or i'd develop my own version to better it. Andy.
  5. I did my prop earlier this year, due to a failed launch (I think i've very recently found the cause but won't go into that here). I was quite unlucky as one tip of the prop (broke both) flew straight up and through both skins of the wing. Destroyed half my cage and netting too. I couldn't find anything else though in terms of damage, no chassis twisting or engine mount problems etc. Andy.
  6. What you describe about feeling half resistance and then full resistance is exactly what I feel if I pull my pull starter slowly. Did you give my starting method a try? or is that what you already do? Andy.
  7. Hi, No I never did. Instead I repaired the ones I had by replacing several pieces. It's not perfect but I got sick of waiting so needs must and all. Andy.
  8. Too right it won't! Had a great laugh. Unlike the review, I even thought the comedian was really good. Tough crowd and he did really well. Andy.
  9. Mark makes a very good point, here's what I do to start mine up when cold in case it's any use.... (It may not be the right procedure but works for me every time) squeeze the priming bulb repeatedly and watch the fuel fill the lines and into the carb. After a few squeezes, the bulb will go hard and I know there's nothing but fuel from tank to carb. Then strap in and pump the throttle full extents 10-15 times. Then I get ready to pull, I'd usually have just the tiniest amount of throttle squeezed during the pull. Not much, just a bit of pressure. But then be ready to pump the throttle if I need to to keep it running. It almost always starts first pull and a couple of blips to keep it going for a few seconds and then it will idle on it's own. The throttle squeezing gives a little squirt of fuel and when cold and it doesnt quite want to idle, repeated little squeezes will keep it going while it gets the first bit of heat into the engine. Maybe give that a go and see what happens? Andy.
  10. Seconded. My first PMC fly in and it was a fantastic weekend even though I didn't fly. (It also helped that there wasn't 3 feet of snow on the ground!) Andy.
  11. I did this time lapse while on holiday the other month. It's a good demonstration of how different wind can be at different altitudes. Two levels travelling almost polar opposite to each other....
  12. Simon will give you good advice on kit and won't try to force you to buy from him either so well worth soaking up his knowledge. For me, both back in 2007 when I started (and stopped!) and during the last winter when I chose to try flying again, i opted for a new wing and a used motor. My logic being that i'm reasonably okay with engines so I can maintain them and fix them and generally spot a problem. And if it fails in flight I won't fall out of the sky. However for my own peace of mind I prefer to have a wing that I know the history of so I took advice on modern wings and went with a new one. Andy.
  13. My V5 is a 2011 one (not a V5S) and starting it is one of it's best features. It had been sat for at least month and last night on the field it fired up first pull on my back and wasn't even a particularly hard pull. I'd be concerned there's something wrong there. I don't know the hours on my motor as it was purchased second hand and frankly I don't really trust anyones claimed hours use. So it could be that mines loosened up, but yours sounds a real pain to start. There are some very experienced bailey owners here so hopefully someone will give you some suggestions. I can probably only offer the standard engine stuff which it sounds like you've already checked. Andy.
  14. Did you really choose to stop a flying hobby because of other pilots doing things wrong?
  15. Top video Simon, I've just subbed. Have you used the Tufftalk in the air yet or are you still training? Andy.
  16. Hi Richard, I think the best thing is to basically start knocking on doors. You can find out who owns a piece of land online from land registry, it does cost a couple of quid but if the land is ideal for you then it's probably worth the punt. I think the general consensus is not to offer payment up front as it places certain liabilities on the land owner which they may not want, but if you get some land, look after it like it's your child! Do everything to get on well with the owner, use it as per any guidelines from them and maybe a few gifts here and there would help lubricate the friendship (Booze seems to be a second currency in the uk) The when you start flying from it, don't upset the neighbours by buzzing around too much and you should be golden! Andy.
  17. You're not buying that to fly are you? ? I pretty much ignore any claims for hours used. I just don't believe them most of the time and that being 3.2 hours? hmmmm Andy.
  18. ? I'm guessing you already know the Hayabusa is a Japanese Peregrine Falcon that eats blackbirds for breakfast? ? I know what you mean about Ducati, it's my second italian bike. The first one munched through it's own transmission and locked the back wheel up in central London. I'd just done 70 miles on the M1 so considered myself lucky! I'm hoping this one will be reliable ? Andy.
  19. Hi Mark, I'm way too much of a novice to advise on wing sizing for you i'm afraid. With the Bailey, I'm slightly over weight on my 23m, which I knew and i'm happy with (only just over, not much). I'd get someone to help you in person if I were you, preferably an instructor. Where abouts are you, as I'm sure there will be people much better placed than me to help? My first wing was a 26m Revo and at the time, my weight and motor combo put me at the bottom of the weight range of that wing, so it was a bit floaty slow to react. currently, 10 years later with a new technology wing and smaller size, it's a more dynamic feeling to it. I prefer the current wing even though I don't have much experience with it yet. I feel there's a certain security in having your lines loaded well, even if things are a little faster and more dynamic. Andy. P.s which Bailey do you have? Although heavy I do like them, the engine and engineering of them is top notch. (Just don't hold your breath getting spares!)
  20. Do you still ride? I've had a Hayabusa for the last 10 years but sold it a week ago to free up funds and i've bought myself an old Ducati Hypermotard which i picked up this afternoon. Andy.
  21. Fitness for me has been a big part of my life for years and coming back to paramotoring this year, it's sure a big help when you're spending months practicing on the ground doing forward launches with a Bailey and no motor running! My main long term hobby is martial arts, which i've been doing for around 25 years, last year being awarded 5th Dan black belt. I used to do a lot of cycling, but I just don't enjoy it anymore so that fell to the wayside a while back. Never tried paddle boarding but did see some people doing it on holiday recently and it looked quite fun (But quite difficult). Andy.
  22. As per the title really, any dealers or people got and cage pieces available? I have some on order but progress is.......er......how do I put it......so looking for other sources. Andy.
  23. I have a Uni1.1 23m. I'm not best placed to review it as such as i've only had one flight on it so far. But it seems to be a very popular wing with really great reviews. That's why I went for it. Great speed range with the trimmers meaning that a lot of pilots probably wouldn't even need speed bar. Quality is very good from what I've seen with my wing and you get good stuff with it, rucksack, stuff sack and also a dew bag. I've done an unboxing video and a ALC install video which will show some detail of it, link below... But also, check out Sandy's channel on Youtube as he has some great videos of him flying the Uni 1.1, just search Wiltshire Man and you'll find him. Andy.
