  1. Hi Al. I'm issuing windows XP home edition and IE8 Cheers, Ian
  2. Did you ever get to the bottom of this (without having to buy a mac!)? My laptop has started doing a very similar thing in that when I log on, the larger options box shows for a split second along with a dialogue confirming that I'm logged on but I'm then immediately logged off again. I can log on using my new android phone and that's how I'm on here. I've cleared my cookies and temp internet files but still unable to log in on the laptop. I'm suspecting that the new phone may have triggered some extra security on this site, although there was never a conflict when logging on with my old iphone? Any help or advice will be gratefully received (other than to ditch the PC! Lol) Regards, Ian
  3. With such impartial survey questioning technique you should work for ipsos mori! Please count me (+1) in for some shivering, muddy gear, ruined hair and big grins! Cheers, Ian
  4. Works fine on my new Samsung Galaxy S2! Not missing my old iPhone 3GS at all
  5. Mine: as new still in box £2.50 personally delivered anywhere in the world ......not!
  6. Looks like Auckland's in trouble then if the GPS is linked to the missile system!
  7. Impressive....but how do you launch the missiles??? Lol!
  8. The best place for a tiny tach is in the toolbox/flight box left on the ground. They are OK for setting things up. But I could never get mine to give me a stable enough reading to bother that much with in the air, and I can honestly say that I have managed fine without the extra wiring, complexity and hassle! Best regards, Ian.
  9. Very funny, mostly though because we've probably all had this kind of call for real from banks, telecom suppliers, utilities etc and are glad it's not us on the receiving end...this time!
  10. Yeah, pure skill. Can't believe someone actually likened these clowns to Ken Block in the comments!
  11. Think you might be right. Gliders have air brakes which are big slabs which come out of the top of the wing to spoil the airflow, slow the plane and kill lift. Sounds bloody hairy!
  12. You can't stop watching it cos you're an old perv! But we would be worried if you were any different.
  13. Great idea! I can't really see a downside as if it only prevents one accident then it's been a priceless excercise. As just a means to forward safety warnings like those from the BHPA into pilots inboxes it would be useful, but with additional input from manufacturers, schools and pilots it would be even more powerful. Ian.
  14. Lol! Funny that Gordon, a real coincidence! Let's hope they don't search on here and find this! - http://www.paramotorclub.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2432&p=14028&hilit=flights#p14028
  15. Can't believe a Red Arrow has crashed, killing the pilot. RIP Flt Lt Jon Egging, Red 4. Sounds like he didn't have enough time to eject safely after ensuring that his plane didn't crash into houses.
  16. I'd like to see the risk assessment and method statement!

    the beast lives

    Ooooh - A TLR1000 - Very nice!!!
  18. I agree with the advice on straps. Also, what helped me get into my Voultion harness was while standing up just before launch to pull the seat down the back of my legs to ensure that it wasn't snagged. Then just a wiggle was enough to get properly seated. Good luck! Ian.
  19. Scramble!............Scramble!
  20. Hi Brian. I've sent you a PM with the contact details for myself and my instructor. The weather is looking favourable over the next few days so hopefully there will be some flying! Best regards, Ian.
  21. Nice one Gary. Loving the dedication. I bet you're feeling relieved after your flying fix! Ian
  22. Hi Stevie Paranoia can wreck an otherwise perfectly enjoyable flight so I hope this has the result of putting your mind at ease. I fly a Revo1 with the prussic knot on the tip steering and although I always include it in the pre-flight check, it has never come loose even though I've not stitched it. The trimmers sometimes slip a bit just after they've been adjusted but in my opinion if you have plenty of altitude in hand so that you don't feel rushed then spending a little while calmly setting them won't be a problem, even if they are uneven for a few seconds. I have huge confidence in my wing which has always brought me home safely even when I've taken off in less than perfect air when I've wished that I'd stayed on the ground! Fly safe and most of all - Enjoy! Ian.
  23. That's pretty comforting! I know that the risers are not equally loaded but times 8 that's a combined capacity of nearly 10 metric tons. They should have done a test with one accidentally left open
  24. I'm not frightened of a register as I'm sort of already on one by being a member of this forum. Just but clicking on "members" in the box at the top right, anyone can see that I'm number 208 of 2,400 on the register and joined on Tue Sep 25, 2007 at 1:20 pm! Does anyone object to being on a register? It would be as easy as setting up a website (UKppgRegister.co.uk is available) and asking active pilots to register free of charge with minimal information. An annual email could be sent out to remind those on the list to re-register (auto-delete from the active list after 2 years?) so that an accurate, current list could be kept. That way any urgent communication could be swiftly made with the community for safety announcements (product recalls, changes to atz’s etc) Other uses could be for marketing (industry related) or community (events, competitions etc) communication with the usual checkboxes for those not wanting to receive this information. Enrolment on the list could be incentivised with something like a free annual draw for a motor/wing etc if sponsorship could be gained from a manufacturer? Or is this just duplicating what is already out there with interest only from a small cross section of the community? I’m steering clear of suggesting mandatory registration as I feel this would alienate quite a few? Just thinking out loud! Any thoughts?
  25. This probably isn't such a daft question, but how can we really know? Where can we pull the info from? What constitutes a PPG pilot anyway? Hours/year? Future intent to fly? Trained? Insured? I think that this could be a really useful piece of information for many reasons, especially if it could be measured on an on-going basis to spot trends. That way we are on the map for wing/motor/other kit manufacturers, prospective clubs, instructors and schools and can be counted as a force to be reckoned with by those who may wish to legislate against us. Or is this one of those never-to-be-answered (seriously ) questions? Ian.
