  1. I will 2nd the recommendation of Andy Morant. He safely taught me to fly from scratch and I cannot speak highly enough of him (as long as you can take his enthusiasm for the latest and greatest kit with a pinch of salt!) His heart is definately in the right place and he's one of the good guys. If you want any more feedback then please feel free to pm me. Cheers, Ian.
  2. Yep, we plan to be there. Simon - Us kent lot are usually quiet because we like our beds. But then we quite often bring our women to the fly-ins and they are good looking girls. Coincidence that we want an early night? I don't think so! Ian.
  3. Just looking through some old threads and wondered if this ever "took-off"?
  4. Even better than a shop bought item then. Great feeling of satisfaction to see something that you've made for yourself. Nice one! Ian.
  5. He's cool, where did you get him from?
  6. It takes a lot of time, hard work, practice and dedication (not to mention apparent corner cutting and disregard for safety) for it to look that quick and easy. Please, please, please take everything that cock says with a MASSIVE pinch of salt. Oops, forgot to say - Wooooooh Hooooooo!

    UK Airspace

I picked mine up from one of the flying schools at Rochester Airport, but for you maybe Biggin Hill would be closer?
  8. Not confirmed anything for Sunday yet but probably Detling as if I'm flying then it will be later in the day as I'm committed to clay shooting in the morning/early afternoon. Will confirm in a bit.
  9. Possibly flying Sunday which is looking the better of the 2 days - so far. Maybe from Detling but TBC. What are your plans? Ian.
  10. Can't believe no-ones posted a reply to this yet. Just seen your video and found it a bit mesmerising! Really simple idea but for some reason I found that I had to keep watching it. Very different from the norm and well put together. Particularly liked the music but with the paramotor noise in the background. Nice one! Ian.
  11. There's always the USSR - http://www.bmaa.org/pwpcontrol.php?pwpID=2404
  12. I was wondering what to do for my girlfriends birthday on the 14th April and now I know.....Lucky girl!!!

    Android market.

Has anyone seen or used the Android app Aircub? Just loaded it and seems like a really simple but effective airspace avoidance app. Will try it on my next flight and report back. Ian.
  14. Definately do it! I've flown along with the Hythe Dymchurch light railway and it was a lot of fun!
  15. Hi Tom. I am a varta dealer and the acid packs are normal. The batteries are stored and shipped dry, with the acid being added only when you want to use the battery. Once activated the battery has a limited shelf life, and many carriers will not handle wet batteries so it makes sense to store them this way. Lighter batteries have been discussed before - http://www.paramotorclub.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6168&hilit=lithium+iron I set up an account to import Shorai Lithium iron batteries but although they represent a great weight saving, at £100+ compared to about £20 for lead acid they are almost prohibitively expensive. Ian.
  16. Hello Mike. Yes, it's been quite a while and would be great to fly together again. I'm definately going to get a load of flying in this year. Glad Bob managed to catch up with you. Where did you all go from on Tuesday, your paddock where we went from last time? Will give you a call tomorrow (Friday) to catch up. Best regards, Ian.
  17. Hello Lee Apologies for the delay in my reply, but up until Saturday I'd not been flying much due to work commitments, problems with transporting my flying gear but mostly due to not getting off of my backside and making it happen! I live between Maidstone and Sittingbourne. Most of the very local sites which I use are under the control of my instructor, but I do have a few sites of my own around Maistone, Sheppey and the Romney Marsh. You are very welcome to give me a call if you want to catch up. I'll PM you with my number. Look forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Ian.
  18. Hi Vinnie. My answer is pretty much the same as all of the answers to your previous similar question. I can only advise you as to how I got into the air and my personal views on the subject. I learned to ground handle with a marlin training wing and a paramania revolution (reflex wing), but my very first flight was on my instructors nemo moto. My next, and subsequent flights were all on the revolution and I didn't have any problems with dieing! I did initially find the revo harder to forward launch, but overcame this with time and practice. Maybe the schools are overly safety conscious, don't want to take the extra time that might (but not necessarily) be required to get you up to speed on a reflex wing, or, just maybe , they may want to sell you a nemo now and a reflex a few months down the track when (not if!) you get bored with the slowness and with not being able to keep up with other pilots! Of course, playing devils advocate the schools may have taken the time to assess you, your abilities and your requirements and may have accurately assessed that a nemo might be the best/safest way forward for you! Everyone is different. Ultimately the best way forward is to pick an instructor who you trust (literally with your life!) and go with their recommendations. Either way I genuinely wish you good luck and safe flying. Best regards, Ian. edit..... Just another quick thought. What wings do these instructors fly? If they themselves are not using reflex wings then they may be behind the times and scared of the unknown. I did a paragliding course (EP) prior to paramotoring and my paragliding instructor was of the same opinion of the "death trap" reflex wings, despite having zero personal experience of them!
  19. I sent that joke to my other half and for a while she only received the first bit of the text! Gave her a bit of a scare!!!
  20. Yeah, I really enjoyed your review too! Great to hear that you're enjoying your new wing
  21. Cheers Pete. I've had a great birthday weekend mostly thanks to Sally, my amazing girlfriend.
  22. Hi Dirk. I live in Bicknor which is only about 10 minutes from you and amongst other places fly from Detling and some local fields when they are available. Happy for you to come along and to show you the ropes (lines!) but I'm not about today as its my birthday. If you want to get in touch by phone tomorrow my number is 07949 988770. Regards, Ian
  23. These are a great alternative. I use a pair as an awesomely warm flying suit - http://www.workwearone.co.uk/product.php/238/0 Waterproof, quilted, warm, loads of pockets and reflective stripes too!
  24. The "in-private" mode works a treat - Just need to hunt down the underlying problem now. Thanks for your help Ian.
