  1. Steve! Just seen this mate Hope you are mending well and haven't got too long to wait before you can start being up and about again All the best George
  2. Thanks Luke I've ended up buying a prop from the Romanian site as you suggested as I was getting radio silence from the UK shop I had tried. I've also bought some netting which is used to protect driving ranges from close range golf balls, so I hope it should be sturdy enough Hope you are looking after St. Peter's!
  3. Thanks for the offers of flying buddies! I'm going to get a 2 bladed prop to replace my three bladed, and see how that goes. Has been designed for my engine apparently. Also going to invest in some netting and see if I can replace my broken stuff... With the spare time whilst my machine is out of action, I have made a short video from a flight in Surrey. Part of my navigation task! Have a look George
  4. An ominous title for a post! I was warming up my motor on the ground a week or two ago, and obviously was braced against it incorrectly because I slipped on the wet grass, and the motor fell forwards. The prop glanced off my arm through the netting on the way down, and hit the ground. As you can see from the pic, the netting has been shredded in a couple of places, and the tips of my prop are damaged. I'm lucky I was wearing a couple of layers, or the tiny lumps it took out of my arm would have been larger! I'm also firmly in the camp of only warming the motor up when it is on my back now..... I'm keen to get the machine fixed, but I'm not sure how to go about repairing the netting? It is lax at the moment. The edges are riveted on to the three part cage. Also with regards to the prop: The original is a 130cm three bladed carbon prop, on my fly products flash 100 motor. Direct replacement is very expensive. Given that I am a beginner and there is a chance I will break a prop again I'm keen to go for something less expensive. Does it need to be like for like? Will I suffer for replacing with a two blade? I'd be grateful for recommendations of where people have bought replacement props from.. Thanks George
  5. Well done mate! Send me a message if you want to go for a fly... I need to get my exam done now for the dual accreditation, was it hard?
  6. A fantastic day, many thanks to the organisers. You have got some fantastic photos there, good work! I'd love some originals if you wouldn't mind.. kirbyg@doctors.org.uk
  7. You had a good days flying! How long did it take you to get back into the wind? I did a couple of short circuits an hour or so after you set off, and was making no progress at all into the wind on my paragliding wind. It may have picked up a little by then though...
  8. Thanks for the advice- very helpful I didn't realise the ppg risers came with dual brake point attachments, might be useful!
  9. I'm after some advice: I have a Sky Anakis wing for paragliding, and bought a high hang point paramotor recently. I had few flights on it under the supervision of an instructor. I've noticed that the brakes are too high at present: it gets uncomfortable on the longer flights, and I was finding it far too easy to brake the wing as I was taking off. Does anyone have any tips for safely lowering the brake handles? Obviously I don't want to change the geometry of the wing by moving where the brakes rest on the stops. I'd also like to have the option of swapping between the free flying harness and paramotor without loads of time and effort. I was thinking of adding another loop of line or handle below the existing handle for flying with the high hangpoints. Is this feasible? I've finished the BHPA syllabus for club pilot now. I'll probably go for another day of tuition if I change anything on my setup, I'd just like to get it sorted before I go! Thanks in advance for your help
  10. Hi. I'm looking to buy a paramotor so I can think about starting to motor as well as paraglide. I'm looking second hand, and there are a bewildering number of different makes out there! Does anyone know of a guide to buying second hand? I'm no mechanic so a few tips on what to look at when viewing a 2nd hand machine would be really useful... There are some much cheaper new machines called G6- does anyone know if their reputation is any good? I presume they are Chinese. Thanks George
  11. Hello all I have been thinking about paramotoring for a few years, and this year decided to do something about it! I think I would really enjoy powered flight. I have gone down the paragliding route first, and done my CP with a school in Brighton. I only qualified recently and have done a few short ridge soaring flights, and a few top to bottoms in the Alps. I am thinking about doing my paramotor training when I've got a few flying hours under my belt, but have a few questions for you learned gentlmen! I invested in a Sky Anakis wing, and would plan to start power flying with this. Are there significant disadvantages to using a paragliding wing? The second question- how much faffing time is required to fly a paramotor?! I love the idea that power flying would increase the amount of time I can potentially fly, rather than just waiting for the weather. Do you have to spend a huge amout of time working on the paramotor, getting it serviced etc? Are there many more flyable days with power? Thanks in advance for your answers. George (based in Windsor, as of this month!)
