  1. Lee, Have you popped up the antenna, on both units? I find range of 1k-1.5k (mile) works reasonably well, but as Vince says if signal is breaking out you often pick it up again if you turn the head and there is a line of sight between sets. I find the range is generally good enough as the breaking of the signal means you are leaving your buddies behind! I started using the SENA gear recently and love the abilty to make clear phone calls etc. I have dumped all other comms, and wouldn't fly without it now! Good luck with it. Oisin
  2. Thanks Patrick. Made it as for as Doncaster this morning before it started raining..again! Sitting it out again. Had hoped to make Cambridge after a lovely 125km start to the day in lovely conditions (slight headwind) fingers crossed for some more good weather. Pity the thousands of Campers I spotted at the Leeds festival! someone else might have some suggestions. all best. Oisin
  3. Gentlemen, I have embarked on a journey on my Paramotor, to raise funds and awareness for Self Help Africa. I flew 300k yesterday from Belfast to Bernard Castle via Scotland. This is the first leg of a trip from Ireland to Africa! It may take a while and may end up being completed in stage (spent all day today rain bound and drinking coffee!!) the trip is entirely self funded and all funds raised to go to the Charity Someone may have some contacts who may be able to assist. I am hoping when weather allows us to fly South, to cross Dover - Calais next week (early in the week hopefully). It's the same distance as the Irish crossing but I looking to get a support RIB for the trip over. To date I have quotes from swim support boats who really know how to charge! Any thoughts suggestions?? Anyone like to join me? I had company on the first crossing and hope to have company on last one as well. Good cause. 4. Hi Dougal, Not quite a Donegal branch member, being based in Cork!! As Gordon suggested you will find other Irish pilots on the http://irelandppg.freeforums.org/ forum, and would be very welcome to join us here too! I have flown for the past twelve months, and would suggets that the best thing you can do is find some company to train with locally! Starting with a ground handling wing is definately the best way to start, although this is also best done in company! With some time on your hands, you would be very welcome to join us in the Cork area sometime for a bit of running around the field! Good luck with quest, and keep in touch. Oisin
  5. Thanks Dan, I have seen many with the tach mounted on the shoulder strap where you can read the engine revs? Hope to come to UK PPG nationals in May where I will have a good look around! Thanks, Oisin
  6. So it sounds like the one for my R120 is the: 2072NR* Still thinking about it, and with the sad weather here in Ireland recently, this is the time for me to fit it I think! Thanks for advice, Oisin

    Mission Everest.

Any idea what the program is being called? No sign of it on previews? Oisin
  8. Norman, I like the poster! Something up with website again, but do try again to post, it should be sorted soon with a change of service provider we hope! I do look forward to a fly-in in Ireland sometime in the not too distant future. Oisin
  9. Francis, We would love to meet anyone interested in flying here. As I say most Irish pilots have been flying 'without exemption' here for some time, and it may just be easier for you to join us and keep the head low. We will however be working to try to make it easier for visitors! Keep in touch. Oisin
  10. Donegalwing, As Norman mentioned ( thanks Norman) there is a website which was set-up by a number of us pilots in Ireland ( a group of us Cork based): www.paramotorireland.com We set this up as a contact point for pilots in Ireland, and as an information resource, dealining particularly with flying in Ireland. We hope to add information very soon for visiting pilots, once we make some progress with simplifying the process of legalising the flying in Ireland. At the moment in Ireland, you need to apply for an exemption, by producing our BMAA or BHPA paperwork, and provide a class 2 medical, and the Irish Aviation Authority will legalise you, by issueing an 'exemption'. This is soon to be replaced by a liscence, which will we assume be much the same as the exemption. It is a bit of hastle, and for this reason, many pilots have not yet applied for their exemptions. This explains why those flying here have been keeping their heads low! A group of us who have been flying together have been getting our paperwork organised, are hoping to be 'legalised' this side of Christmass, and as soon as we are we can finally be more open with our activities! At that point we will publicise our flying a bit more and welcome people to join us to see some flying and talk paramotoring! All will be welcome to join us then! As soon as we make progress on simplifying the rules for visitors, we hope to promote a few flyins here in Ireland and invite pilots North and South in Ireland and particularly UK pilots who have been put off by our 'regulations' in Ireland. Many thanks. Hope to see some of you in Ireland in 2008! Oisin
  11. Dan, Just read your early posting and noticed you are flying a H&E R120. I fly the same motor, and was thinking of fitting a tach. Can you tell me the model you went for? If it works well for you, it is good enough for me. Thanks Oisin
  12. Having seen the value of your excellent forum, a number of us Irish Pilots have set-up a website and Forum. It is still somewhat under construction and has been up and running for over a week at this stage. Unfortunately we have already had trouble with the host server going down for a few days! All are welcome, and it operates very much the same way as this. It is intended as a non commercial site for pilots, regardless of affiliations or other club memberships. We believe it is long overdue in Ireland. Among other things, we would hope to be able to make it easier for UK Pilots to visit and fly in Ireland. Currently an 'exemption' is required in Ireland, which means applying to our Aviation Authority with 'recognised course' qualification, and a Class2 medical. We have the bizarre scenario where Northern Irish Pilots cannot fly across the border, without formally applying to be exempt from the need for a liscence?? Keep up the good work, feel free to join in from time to time. All advice and input is very welcome, and we are very aware that there is significant experience in the UK which few pilots have in Ireland. http://www.paramotorireland.com Many thanks, Oisin
  13. New to the sport. Based in Ireland, and flying since June this year. Trained with Mike Dakin in Spain in April. Looking forward to meeting other pilots in Ireland North and South. Maybe venture over to UK to some meets next year, when we get more confidant? 10 flights up and constantly looking for windows in the dodgy Irish weather! I am keen to make contact with anyone else flying in Ireland, and would rather avoid being drawn into the commercial interests and politics. Reading your site, and seeing how and why Paramotor Club emerged, sounds very much the same as the Irish scene from my limited involvement! Safe flying. Oisin Creagh Cork, Ireland.
