police heli escort out of notam zone

Saw it all happen but no idea who it was..

Myself, Andy and Rupert who were all aware of the Notams because of Labour Party Conference were flying from Tescombe cliffs to Beachy Head (heading east from T/O rather than west which would have taken us in to the NFZ)

on our first flight we saw a couple of other PPG,s who had taken off further in land and turned east at the coast but after we had returned and were refuling we saw one of these guys to the West of T/O in the NFZ.

About 10 mins later we saw him getting a very close escort out of the area by the Police Helicopter.

After he had landed the Police helicopter landed by the PPG and was on the ground for 10-15mins (but was out of our line of sight).

I would imagine the the offender will be prosecuted but if not we do have pictures of him/ his wing that we can post to try and find this idiots identity.

After this bit of drama we took off again for yet another super smooth flight up to Beachy head

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ NOTAMS - IT ONLY TAKES 2 MINUTES AND CAN SAVE A LOT OF HASSLE / FINES /ETC

Another example of one idiot spoiling it for us all

If you are 100% sure that he was infringing the NFZ then I think you should post the photos.

Andy,

You just jumped to number 1 current student 5*

A great example to all.

SW :D

Thanks Simon - I wondered why my ranking tag had changed from 'Not Here Often' to 'Been Here A While'. Although in reality it has only been a few short weeks.

So much still to learn, but a very exciting journey... and great people here to help :D

Andy

RE Brighton Incident

My friend knows the guy involved 'Bob', an experienced paramotor pilot who has been on TV (fifth gear test of the new scirocco) - Apparently the heli landed and had a chat about his paramotor, no further action to be taken. Ive pointed him in the direction of this thread

here is the incident in question:-

There is a sad truth here.

If we don't have a NOTAM and AIS checking regime as art of pur pre-flight preparations, it could happen to us. Were they unlucky or just plain stoopid? Put on your judges black silk cap and make the call. I might just step into my greenhouse with a brick in my mitt and listen.

Let's all learn from this one?

The video quite clearly says 'Oh dear, Steve gets a police escort'. So where does Bob come in?

There have been loads of complaints re low flying along the coast from Hastings to Brighton, particularly about PPG pilots buzzing the public low along the beaches. Nearly every time I land out on the Newhaven-Brighton run, I get complaints. The CAA have been informed, and will take miscreants to court if sufficient proof is provided. While the mysterious 'Bob and Steve' may not have seen the NOTAMS, they sure as hell should know about the 500 foot rule. There is someone who regularly launches from the southern end of Telscombe Tye and annoys the public by illegal low flying. Is he Bob? Is he Steve? Or someone else?

Get your act together guys; it's cool to buzz the beaches, and I know I'd be tempted myself, but it's illegal, and your day in court will come, and the result won't just be a telling off...

Hello All

It was me and my lad who strayed into the NFZ

Our flight was from Telescombe to Beachy Head and return which was a great flight, after a cup of tea we decided on a quick trip down to the mariner and back.

Did Not check NOTAMS (lesson learned)

the Police were fine, just a friendly chat and a look over the hardware on his helicopter.

But apologies anyway

If someone came over to my turf and did the same I would be pissed as well

Bob..

That was our first flight in your area and in the 2 to 3 years we have flown in our area not one complaint.

we get lots of people asking questions and we go out of our way to show them all the kit. hearts and minds

it pays to be friendly.

No problem. As others have said, not many people check NOTAMs anyway, becasue they're obscure, and a pain to get at.

However, it seems the plot thickens. According to one of our members, there was a lone PPG who flew past the Marina, and right up to the conference hall, at low level. So who was he?
